Monday Motivation for a 5″ x 7″ Photo

5" x 7" photo scrapbook sketchSometimes there is photo that you just can’t reduce to a 4″ x 6″ photo without losing the details or that special look. Here is a great layout that puts the focus right where it goes, on your photo. Using the contrasting colors to bring out the color in your photo will help it pop.

The blues and browns have been a popular color combination for quite a few years. Looking at the color pallets for spring, I don’t see this changing anytime soon.

What is your favorite color pallet these days? Leave a comment below and let see how everyone else thinks.

Make your life faster, simpler, and easier with Close To My Heart’s rolling tote. Simply pack it and go to any crafting event, knowing that all the right tools and tricks are stored safely inside. These totes are so much nicer than the ones we use to have, and such pretty colors too!  Done in Lagoon and Slate and has a matching bag.  The new tote will hold 1 large , 1 medium and 3 small organizers or any combination there of. The side pockets hold things like your paper trimmer, score board and other tall items, and the front holds 12 x 12 paper holders. Just perfect for taking your supplies with you to a crop, or just to keep organized at home. Well, enough from me, listen to the video and Monica and Brian will also show how the tote folds up flat for easy storage too.

It is also perfect for those Valentine Cards you are thinking about making.  Use the arrow, the heart and the masking technique you can pin the heart to the target.

While it is hard to see in this image the target and  heart are specifically noted to work with the Cricut Collection Artbooking Cartridge, I am sure you can find the banners in our cartridges somewhere.

National Thank You Month

When I was looking us history for National Thank you Month, I found a dozen or so different “causes” shall we say for the Month of January. While I have not found any history on National Thank You Month, I will embrace this one. We all need to say thank you a little more and murmur a bit less. National Thank You Month was probably set in January because people are still able to bask in the warmth of the holiday good will.  Set in August or September people might have been a bit more jaded.

Since New Years Day fell on Throwback Thursday where I usually post the weekly card sketch, I thought I would post one today. Perhap you will make it a Thank you card to send for National Thank You Month. I plan to send a card a day this month. If you are on my mailing list and I have your snail mail address, you might be a lucky receiver of one! Here is a link to go sign up now.  You can also send an e-mail and give me your snail mail address. Business’ you are included here, after all, wouldn’t your business grow if you sent more thank you notes too?

Here is your sketch: Come back later today and see what I have done with the sketch.

Circle of Buttons on a Scrapbook Page

Scrapbook sketch using buttonsHappy Motivational Monday!

Here is a single page sketch you start your week. It will use 2 3×4″ pictures and 1 4×6″ one. What I like about this layout is the big circle for buttons!  Buttons add interest to a page and help bring whatever colors are in your pictures to the page.  Use the journaling tag to hide your journaling too.

I really would like to see what you do with this sketch, so please take a picture of yours and either send it to or text it to 801-597-4896. I will them post them so others can see your take on the sketch!

Have a Creatively great day,

Single Focal Point Single Page Layout Sketch

Scrapbooking Sketches - Single LayoutSingle page layouts are great if you want to use a single photograph as your focal point,  In the layout to the left, you can use the 2 papers under the photo mat can be extended as straight cuts overlapping.

Try using Chipboard circles, try to crumple them a bit and inking them with Cocoa Ink for a look of worn leather.

Brads can be used for the small circles to the left, or use buttons that coordinate and use a large button under the journaling circles

Give this sketch a try, and post your feelings about the sketch here.  Send me a picture of your layout and  you want to be entered into the August drawing for a FREE STAMP SET.

Motivational Monday Scrapbook Sketch

As we embark on a new year of goals and challenges to motivate us into get our scrapbooking done, I will be posting a new sketch each week to challenge you. If you send me a copy of the scrapbook page you create from the sketch,  you will be entered into a drawing to win a free gift at the end of the month!  So here is this week’s sketch!

Scrapbook Page Map Template

The colors are only for distinction of placement NOT for the way they match ( or don’t match)   The bottom box on the right side page is a torn edge.  They grey box between the two photos is the piece of photograph you cut to make the square picture – presumably 4 x 4 = it is the leftover piece.

How does this scrapbook sketch make your feel? Do you feel your gaze going smoothly from left to right? Scrapbook sketches or templates are only meant to give you a starting point for your page – where will you take this motivation from here is up to you!

Colors of Fall

This picture was taken by my business coach, John Sanpietro in Upper New York and I just had to share. It shows the colors of fall so beautifully. Do you take fall pictures?  Here is Northern California there isn’t as many trees groved together to get this look.

These are not color combinations we usually use during the year, but a great use of color. Here you can see how just shades of difference in color make a beautiful layout. I see bits of Autumn Terracotta,Honey, Barn RedOlive, Garden Green,New England IvyButtercup, Sunset, Creme Brulee, . And all of these colors come in the new Cardstock shade packs!  Great way to get coordinating colors at a great price!

Leave a comment here and let me know if you scrap fall pictures and if so, what colors do you use? And to inspire you further, I am doing a drawing from everyone who posts a comment this month for a bit of blog candy at the end of the month…. will YOU be a winner?
