What Does the MLK Holiday Mean to You?

I remember growing up that February Perfect layout for birthday picturewas a great month because we celebrated 2 president’s birthdays and it meant two 3-day weekends in a row. Now they have to share their birthdays into “President’s Day” so we can celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday. I don’t know about you, but the kids were just home for two weeks and I wasn’t quite ready to have them home all day again.  I know Civil Rights are important but we celebrated Lincoln for abolishing slavery so why do we make him share with the first president instead of changing everything around?  This post will probably get me into trouble with some, but I have yet to see anyone in any of the places I live do anything to celebrate Martin Luther King’s birthday. It seems like just another excuse for the government offices to be closed, the post office not to deliver the mail and kids to be home. Maybe it should be a regional holiday like Pioneer’s Day in Utah. Alright, I admit I am getting closer to 60 each year and I still wish school started the Tuesday following Labor Day and ended at the end of the 2nd week in June… they were things we could rely on like George and the cherry tree.

Leave a comment below and tell me what you are doing on this Martin Luther King’s Birthday.

Creatively,  Carol
